This guide will provide plenty of examples and inspirations for adding the wonderful ocean-themed hues of aqua, teal, and turquoise to your home décor.

Teal and Aqua Blue in the Home

I'll admit it—I was raised in an aqua home. Yes, our dining room, living room, and kitchen were covered with aqua décor. The draperies (of course in aqua) covered not only the windows but also the walls. The home was comfortable and charming, and the glow from the aqua décor brings back fond memories, even today.

What is so great about aqua? It reminds me of the ocean. It is natural and joyful. I can just envision dolphins jumping for joy, delighted by this beautiful blue color.

Teal and turquoise are other distinctive shades that can work anywhere from the bathroom to the garden shed. Beware, however, these are unforgettable shades—journey with me to see why and decide for yourself if these fantastic colors, derived from the sea, are suitable for your home's décor.

In my home, there are several pieces in aqua and turquoise, from the matting around my $10 Asian paintings to a chest I painted in vibrant turquoise.

A business associate of my husband's has an aqua car—a Thunderbird convertible! And in my last home, I had a bathroom that my neighbor's children called the "funky green" bathroom. That was close to five years ago. Now, aqua is back with a passion—and what a delightful passion it is!

Teal, Aqua, and Turquoise in the Kitchen

Aqua colors also work very well in the kitchen, especially for beachfront or waterfront homes. Add in the classic white, and you have a contrast that is sure to please everyone—the décor is simply timeless.

Ocean Colors in the Bathroom in Any Form—Tile, Towels, and More!

I once had a fitness client whose personal goal was to swim in every ocean of the world. I could relate but settled for having an aqua bathroom. Whether you add color with accents such as a shower curtain or towels or simply through the decorations, these ocean tones are always distinctive and inviting. Small spaces such as a bathroom are especially conducive to this color palette.

Turquoise and Teal Furniture Bring Vibrancy to a Room

Teal, aqua, and turquoise remind us of the beautiful color tones of the sea. Any room or accent looks gorgeous in these shades. It could be ultra-modern, it could be classic, or it could be a garden structure turned into a gorgeous outdoor office. Enjoy aquatic colors—use them liberally and celebrate the vibrant colors of the sea!

Beautiful Teal Wood Garage Door

We can readily imagine a front door in teal. We can even imagine shutters—but who would ever imagine that they would look this great? Of course, the detail on the wood molding is the real statement piece, but what a fantastic way to call attention to the exquisite wood molding and windows on a garage door.

The Wondrous Colors of the Ocean Should Be Experienced by All

The miracle of a teal blue ocean is something I pray every human has the chance to experience. It cannot be captured in a photo or even in a video—it has to be seen firsthand. A room can be painted in teal to remind you of that out-of-body first-hand ocean experience. But it is only a memory, a fond memory of the diversity of color that explodes into being when the bright blue sky casts its gleam upon the pristine waters of the ocean.

John F. Kennedy perhaps stated it best: we are derived from the sea. In many ways, I feel closer to the sea than even to my own flesh and blood. Perhaps the sea is my paternal family? Perhaps the Greek fables of Poseidon were correct in some transcendental way? Or is it more simplistic, and JFK is right—we came from the sea?

I would recommend in today's technology simply printing the photo and taking it to your favorite hardware store. All the big box stores and Ace and True Value both provide color matching.

I would also recommend taking a sample or two home and trying it on the actual wall.

This is the same color I put in my tiny guest bathroom many years ago that I loved. The little girls next store called it the "funky green" - I didn't find their use of verbiage appealing but I did find that they thought it was distinctive a compliment. And that was 15 years ago!

BTW - funcky the urban dictionary says means cool - oh, I am so behind the times!

What color and brand is the paint used in the bathroom in the first photo? It's beautiful!

Hi Dash,

Aqua, teal blue turquoise - whatever your color preference, they are all reminiscence of coastal colors and call us to the beloved sea.

Dolores Monet,

You are right - aqua is back - great return. Oh, a vacation at home - aqua blue reminiscent of the sea! I agree!

You work too much - always thinking of the home office - although the office shown was very cool.

Me - love the aqua blue in a small bathroom - seems to open up the space - Calgon take me away!

Thank you for stopping by.

I want that aqua home office - it's so gorgeous! Or a teeny vacation home like that. Anyway, now that aqua is back and popular again, it's easy to find those aqua accents, paints, and fabrics that you love. I love the color paired with white. Voted up for beautiful!
